Lea Zmurko: Chilly air goes away, but sunshine will stay.
Many of us will wake up to subzero conditions as the cold air will continue this morning, but winds have significantly died down so the windchill will be less drastic by mid-morning. By the time the sunrises many will start to see positive air temperatures and an abundance of sunshine as high pressure remains overhead.
Light snow could likely cross the North Shore with a change in wind direction bringing Lake effect snow to the other side of the lake.
More precipitation will arrive over the weekend as a light wintery mix will cross Saturday afternoon and switch to light to moderate snow overnight. The accumulation will remain light, but icy could cause some slick areas on pavement.
Temperatures will climb into the mid-30s by Sunday before conditions fall back to normal with some more wintry mixed precipitation and snow arriving Monday. With colder air returning, Lake effect snow will become favorable mid-week for the South Shore with light accumulation.
