Prep basketball: Esko boys remains undefeated, Cherry girls downs Denfeld on the road

On Friday night, Esko boys basketball took down Superior 70-49, while Cherry girls basketball took down Duluth Denfeld, 62-35.

Esko was held to their season low of 70 points, but also held Superior to the lowest total by an opponent so far this season.

Jacion Owens led Esko with 23 points, with Sam Haugen scoring 11. Superior’s Calvin Anderson was the Spartans only double digit scorer with 13.

Esko is off to their best start since the 2022-2023, when they won seven straight. Esko now turns to face Proctor on Tuesday, while Superior takes on Rock Ridge on Thursday.

Cherry girls basketball rolled to a nearly 30 point win, led by Anna Serna, who dropped 24 points. For Denfeld, Laynie Reinertsen scored a team high 12 points.

Cherry takes on Two Harbors on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m., while Denfeld looks to snag their second win of the season on Monday against Silver Bay.
