Fond du Lac Police Officers gather gifts for 4th annual toy drive

Fond du Lac Police Officers are gathering gifts and asking monetary donations for their 4th annual toy drive to help families in need within the Fond du Lac community.

Around this time of year, it can be especially difficult to make ends meet and share gifts with families. There are so many community efforts to help make the holidays merry and bright. One of those efforts is from the Fond du Lac Police Department with the 4th annual toy drive.

Police officers braved below freezing temperatures last week, and are still getting out this week, donating toys and games for kids of all ages. The Fond du Lac Police, and the reservation’s Human Social Services collaborate together with the annual toy drive.

Officer Boyd Billman says the FDL’s Social Services Division coordinate with families in need. Last week they made a wish-list for what presents their kids would like this holiday season.

“This year we’ve serviced over 60 families that have been identified with over 100 kids. So collecting donations, whether it be physical toys or otherwise accepting cash donations last week, actually took in over $500 in cash donations as well.”

Officer Billman says their annual toy drive started back during the COVID-Pandemic, when many families were struggling during the holidays. Since then, their annual toy drive has help hundreds of kids, because of generous donations.

“Our team identifies families in need and it stays local. All these toys go to local families in the greater Fond du Lac area, Cloquet and Duluth area. So the biggest thing is making sure these toys stay local and supporting local families.”

Whether it’s a special gift or a financial contribution, the FDLPD wants to thank everyone who helped make a difference for families in need this holiday season.

“We’re looking to fill our human services bus today. So any large toys we can take them in as well as those cash donations if you’re running short on time. We just want to say thank you and make which for your donations and supporting local families.”

Police officers will wrap up all the gifts and the Fond du Lac Human Social Services will distribute the presents to families next week. Also for other stories happening with the Fond du Lac Band you can read more here.
