UMD men's basketball prepares for solo weekend matchup against St. Cloud State

The 9-5 University of Minnesota Duluth men’s basketball gears up for their 2025 home opener against 10-7 St. Cloud State.

The Bulldogs took home two big year-opening conference wins against Northern State University and Minnesota State University, now they look to take on another conference opponent at the Romano gym.

“They’re big and physical. They’ve got some guards that can really shoot it. They play really hard. They’re a lot like us, honestly, just a little bit younger. So, it’s going to be a physical battle. They shoot a ton of free throws. We’ve got to be able to guard them without fouling, hopefully. And then, obviously, be able to just do what we do offensively, share the ball, move the ball,” said UMD men’s basketball head coach Justin Wieck.

UMD will tip off against St. Cloud at the Romano Gym at 3PM on Saturday. Click here to view their full season schedule.

Saturday’s matchup is also dedicated to Sophie’s Squad, an organization focused on mental health awareness and founded by UMD women’s hockey alumni Gabbie Hughes.
