Prep Boy’s Hockey: Hermantown bests St. Cloud Cathedral, CEC tops Duluth Marshall
On Thursday, Hermantown boy’s hockey took down 2024 State Class A Championship rival St. Cloud Cathedral 6-0 and Class A #3 Cloquet-Esko-Carlton defeated Duluth Marshall 3-2.
In Hermantown, Hermantown alumni and IIHF World Junior gold medalist Max Plante was welcomed for the ceremonial puck drop for the game. Both Hermantown’s goaltender Bryce Francisco and St. Cloud Cathedrals Blake Kayser would keep the game scoreless through the first period. Within the first minutes of the second period Bode Madill sparked an offensive onslaught for the Hawks, who would go to tally five goals in the second period and one in the third. River Freeman would record a hat trick during the second period, while totaling 3 goals for the Hawks in total.

In Cloquet, the 13-1 Lumberjack’s Connor Sullivan, Grady Knutson, and Bobby Thornton would tally goals, and Hilltopper’s Brayden Hannula and Benson Peterson would tally goals. Marshall’s goaltender Landon Wheeler would make 36 saves; Cloquet-Esko-Carlton’s goaltender Jacob Iallonardo would make 16 saves.
