Multiple snow related car accidents reported

Heavy snow fall in the Northland has made for slick driving, with the authorities reporting several crashes on snowy and icy roads.

Authorities responded to the scene of an accident in the early hours of January 12 in Schroder Township in Cook County.

Around 1:40 a.m. a car was driving northbound on Highway 61 when it crossed over the centerline of the road, went into the ditch before hitting a culvert and road sign. The two men in the car, a 79-year-old and 84-year-old from Grand Portage, both suffered injuries and had to be transported for treatment. The report describes both injuries as “non-life threatening.”

The State Patrol was assisted by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Tofte Fire, Tofte First Responders, Schroeder Fire, Cook County Northshore Health.

Later on January 12, a crash was reported in Duluth at 2:42 p.m. on I-35 at Superior Street.

The report says the driver lost control and struck the wall on the right side of the interstate. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Duluth Fire Department, as well as Mayo Ambulance in this second accident.

Both accident reports say road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the collisions.
