Taking a breather with Spirit of Breath
In Superior at Inherent Harmony, a small retreat was held called Spirit of Breath. This mini retreat brought participates on a journey of different sounds, music, and breathing techniques to reset and recharge.
This event is a collaboration between two locals who want to help others in healing and meditation. Loralee Palsey and Monique Forcier collaborated their skills to open the mind and heal the body. Monique used sound bowls, crystal bowls, and a gong as Loralee guided the group with neurodynamic breath work.
Breathwork is the use of breathing techniques in order to achieve altered states of consciousness and to have a variety of effects on physical and mental well-being. As Singing bowls are popular instruments for meditation and sound healing practices. Some Nepalese and Tibetan Buddhist traditions incorporate singing bowls in meditation practices. Dragging a mallet around the bowl’s edge creates a sound bath or listening experience for meditation.
The two of them host this event at the beginning of the year, as a mini retreat. With the busyness and changes in weather, Loralee hopes to help slow people’s minds down and calm people.
“And in this busy, crazy world, we’ve got so much technology. Breath work is a great way to slow people’s minds down and calm people and give people the peace and just the relaxation that they’re looking for in today’s world.”
Outside of this mini retreat, both parties host a variety of events throughout the year. Monique is a spiritual coach and teaches Kundalini Yoga. While Loralee is a Wim Hof instructor on top of being a Breath work facilitator, and creator of the Duluth Cold Water Dolphins.
The event ran for 4hours with a variety of activates. This included, guided mediation, Neurodynamic Breathwork session, and an hour of Singing Bowls. They also hosted an art therapy session by creating their own art mandala amongst a sharing circle. This was all in hopes of facilitating communal healing as they referred to it.
“A lot of times we can be searching for more healing within ourselves, and we don’t really know where to look and coming to a more collective community space can help with that and relate with other people who might be experiencing the same things that we are.”
Monique and Loralee have another collaboration coming up called Discovering Joy. An online and zoom class in which people will dive into different kinds of practices in order to discover joy and happiness inside themselves. Check out their websites more on the upcoming events.
