January 12: Bitter cold returns

Arctic air will enter the Northland tonight alongside blustery northwest winds.

Lingering flurries are possible tonight near the Twin Ports and eastward as the snowstorm exits the region. Blustery northwest winds will continue through the night, ushering arctic air.

Overnight lows will range from -15 degrees in Bemidji to -3 degrees in Ashland. Wind chill values as low as -35 are expected tonight into Monday morning. A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for northern Minnesota and Douglas and Burnett Counties in Wisconsin. The advisory will be in effect from midnight to 10 am.

Wind chills will be in the -20s for many (WDIO).

Monday will be mostly cloudy with afternoon highs near zero. Wind chill values will stay between -20 and -30 as the northwest wind gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday will be sunny and about ten degrees warmer. The gradual warm-up will continue into the second half of the week with temperatures reaching around 30 degrees by Thursday. More bitter cold is in store for next weekend as highs struggle to get above zero. The good news is snow will stick around longer.

A chance of flurries before 3pm, then a slight chance of snow between 3pm and 4pm, then a chance of flurries after 4pm. Partly sunny and cold, with a high near 2. Wind chill values between -20 and -30. Blustery, with a northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunny, with a high near 8. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

A chance of snow after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 20. Breezy, with a southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
