Three dogs killed in Duluth house fire

Three dogs were killed in a Duluth house fire on Wednesday morning, January 15. According to Kelli Latuska, public information officer of the City of Duluth, the Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a call of a structure fire at 617 Spear Avenue around 4:18 a.m. There was heavy smoke and an active fire in the basement when crews arrived.

No humans were injured and all human residents were able to safely get out of the building, but three pet dogs were found deceased in the aftermath of the fire.

Latuska said the residents have been temporarily displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Damages to the home are estimated at $100,000.

The cause of the fire is being investigated for the Duluth Fire Marshall’s office.
