Prep boys hockey: Hermantown and Grand Rapids skate to tie, Hibbing/Chisholm takes down CEC
Tuesday night was the regular season finale for many boys hockey teams in the Northland, and it resulted in a 1-1 tie between Grand Rapids and Hermantown and a Hibbing/Chisholm win over Cloquet/Esko/Carlton, 5-2.
The scoring in Hermantown was simple. Luka Rohloff found the back of the net on the power play for Grand Rapids in the first period to give them the lead, and River Freeman sent a one-timer on net in the second period to tie the game up at 1-1.
Both teams will head into the section playoffs with a tie.
In Cloquet, the Hibbing/Chisholm Bluejackets came out firing, as Jackson Strukel and Tate Swanson found the back of the net to go into intermission with a 2-0 lead.
The Lumberjacks would come roaring back thanks to Niko Gentilini, who scored two goals by himself to even up the score at 2-2, but the Bluejackets would net three more goals, with two coming from Isaiah Hildenbrand and the final from Ben Galli.
Hibbing/Chisholm takes on Chisago Lakes on Friday at 7 p.m. while CEC finished their regular season at 18-7.
