Willow River Rebels enjoying new flight simulator

Students in Willow River are excited about learning to fly using the new flight simulator donated by SIA.

Students at Willow River can now experience flying, right from the math classroom.

That’s because there’s a new flight simulator set up.

Noah Uszenski, an aviation enthusiast in the 8th grade, showed us how it works. He was excited they got one. “It’s very realistic, and it’s cool to expose students to something I’m very passionate about,” he told us.

As for aviation, he’s looking at either the pilot route or more on the developmental design and mechanic side.

It was donated by Students in Aviation, SIA for short, which is based in Wisconsin.

Joe Canepa, the founder of SIA and pilot himself, is happy it’s working out for Willow River. He enjoys sharing his love for flying with the next generations.

He also owns a company that provides the software for their bus routing systems, so that’s how this got connected.

Transportation Supervisor Nathan Berg told us they are looking at putting together a class or a club. “I think it’s kind of cool, because, how many schools have the chance to be able to teach their kids this,” he said.

Willow River is the first school in Minnesota to receive this donation, joining about 60 others in the country.
