Students help school bus driver having a medical emergency

Students on a school bus in Crow Wing County help their bus driver after the man experienced a medical emergency while driving. According to a post on the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, students were riding the bus Tuesday, shortly after 3 p.m. They were on their way to a transfer stop after school.

Authorities say, some of the students noticed that the bus driver, a 74-year-old man, was not following the usual route to the drop off location. There were 30 children on board at the time. One student was able to use the bus radio to ask for help.

The driver was able to stop the bus and let the children exit in a rural area near County Road 45, until law enforcement and EMS responded to the area.

The students were released to parents at the scene with the remaining children transported by another bus to their residences. No one else was injured during this incident.

Authorities say the driver was transported by ambulance to a medical facility in serious condition. No further details were given regarding the medical emergency.
