Another tentative labor agreement has been reached involving Cleveland-Cliffs.
This time, it’s with the United Steelworkers who clock in at their mines.
Those mines include Hibbing Taconite, United Taconite, and Tilden. Cliffs said the deal would cover about 2,000 employees.
Around noon on Friday, the USW released more details about the tentative agreement. It would include a more than 20% wage increase over the life of the contract, along with two weeks of paid parental leave and paid time off for survivors of domestic violence.
Cliffs said in a press statement that the agreement would go into effect October 1st, and would be 47 months.
Lourenco Goncalves, Chairman, President and CEO said: “Reaching a second labor agreement in less than two weeks reaffirms our great alliance with the USW. It also confirms one more time that we know very well our responsibilities as the supplier of choice to clients in critical sectors, such as military and automotive. We have now demonstrated twice why Cleveland-Cliffs gets things done and how we act: we negotiate respectfully, fairly and privately. A strong workforce is critical to our present and future competitiveness, and we look forward to continuing our shared success with our USW partners.”
Cliffs had already reached a deal with their steelmaking operators, which also included Minorca.
