Meet the Ring tailed Lemurs at the Lake Superior Zoo
In this week’s “In Otter News”: We head to the Lake Superior Zoo to meet a spunky troop of ring-tailed lemurs. There over 300 species of lemurs, and they all originate from Madagascar.
Emily Perala is the lead zookeeper at Lake Superior Zoo tell us the ring-tailed lemur is one of her favorite animals to work with. The six lemurs at the zoo are very social and follow a dominance hierarchy similar to wolves. The women are in charge of. The six females are dominates over the male.
The males’ name is Reagan, and he one of the oldest in the troop. Rowan, on the other hand, is the most dominate.
One of the most iconic parts of the lemur is their tail. It always has thirteen stripes on it.
