Spring system to bring more snow and winds into Friday
A spring system that arrived to the Northland on Tuesday will continue into Friday.
Snow pushed across far northern Minnesota Wednesday night leading to snow and ice on some roads for the Thursday morning commute. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Koochiching, North St. Louis, Lake and Cook counties until 7 p.m. Thursday.
Snow returns from the west through Thursday morning and afternoon with snow squalls possible. Scattered snow gradually thins out from south to north through Thursday night and Friday morning. The greatest additional accumulations will be in the areas under the Advisory with 2-3". Widespread accumulation elsewhere will be generally 1-2" with higher amounts possible locally.
Wednesday brought a brief break from the gusty winds, but winds make a comeback Thursday. A southwest wind will be sustained 15-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. This may lead to blowing snow and times of poor visibility in steady snowfall rates. Winds become westerly Thursday night and maintain strength through Friday.
