Up North: Pumpkin Run & Walk has spooktacular turn out

Halloween is on Monday, so last Saturday some Northlanders got in the holiday spirit by not only dressing up in their costumes early but also running in them.

Northlanders are known for, despite cold temperatures, getting out and staying active.

What better way to do just that before All Hallows’ Eve, than to dress up and head to Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College for their Pumpkin Run and Walk 5k.

“We are excited to host our 17th annual Pumpkin Run and Walk 5k. It’s the oldest Halloween themed race in the Northland. We have a little bit over 200 people that came out today and all sorts of costumes with their families to participate today,” said Director of Marketing Taylor Warnes.

The course of the race was designed to not only welcome newcomers, but also showcase the beautiful land and campus that the college rest on.

“It’s a really scenic course going through the campus is kind of cool and it’s great weather this time of year. There’s still a lot leaves, at least not on the road so that was nice,” said first male finisher Scott Behling.

Although Behling wasn’t in his scariest attire, luckily the race was meant for runners and walkers of all abilities and ages to enjoy the lighter side of the event.

“My little niece was running in a Thomas costume so that was fun to see her on the course,” Behling continued.

“It’s a good turnout and a lot of fun. People are smiling, happy and the college does a really good job at hosting it,” concluded first women’s finisher Kelly Leal.
