Pike Lake students learn all about maple syrup

Fourth and Fifth graders at Pike Lake Elementary are learning all about maple syrup.

They are in the middle of a multiclass lesson where they are learning about the science of the process, the history of it, and on Monday they even saw the process first hand at a maple syrup boil

Their teacher says this really gives kids a better understanding of the natural world around them.

“It’s it’s important for kids to be able to have this experience. They get to know by name the things that are in their own backyard,” explained teacher Ron Marohn. “[It’s] just real simple things that we see every day, but you don’t notice them and we’re teaching them to notice things, and it’s pretty rewarding.
