Essentia Health is now offering the second COVID-19 booster for those who are 50 years and older at their locations.

The shot will also be given to those who are 12 years and older and are moderately to severely immunocompromised, and those who received a primary vaccine and booster dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine.

St. Luke’s Hospital will be offering the second COVID-19 boosters starting April 7th.

Second boosters can be given four months after the previous booster and will be mRNA vaccines and will be compatible with Moderna, Pfizer, and J&J.

Even as experts keep an eye on the effectiveness against new variants, they say it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Essentia pharmacist Davis Sperl says, “As our world changes and our response to the pandemic and how we all navigate that changes it’s nice to really be at that highest level in protection for sure."

Appointments are preferred at both locations.
