Ahead of Veterans Day, the Men’s and Women’s Bulldogs Hockey team took time out of their day to write letters to the local service members and veterans in our community. This is a tradition for the team, but they haven’t able to do it since 2019 because of Covid-19.
While these aren’t people that they know, the impact of is not lost on Bulldog Gabbie Hughes, “I think it’s super cool just to reflect on all the work that people do for for this country. They have to sacrifice so much to do all the things that they’re doing. And for us to sit here and write these letters, they are over there not spending time with their families. So just thinking about that and be able to show them that appreciation I think is super cool just to spend time reflecting on that.”
Hughes grandfather served in the Vietnam War, and says that’s why it feels personal, “I think just thinking about him and all the sacrifices he’s made and hearing all of his stories and how strict they are, and he talks about cutting potatoes. And if you didn’t cut him right, he got sent back into something else. So I just think hearing those stories and reflecting on those things is super cool.”
Veterans day is Friday November 11th.
