TPS recipients and families rally in DC for expanded protections

TPS, also known as temporary protection status, is a provision under, which the government grants protection from deportation. The people from certain countries afflicted by natural disasters, war, or other dangerous conditions.

Recipients with TPS are planning a rally in D.C., outside the US Customs and Immigration Services building November 11th at 12:30pm EST. The planned rally is to demand President Biden to redesign and expand Temporary Protected Status for recipients in Central America. Some of the recipients wanting the expanded status are from Nicaragua, Honduras, Haiti, and El Salvador.

Another demand recipients with TPS have is for Guatemala to be granted an initial temporary protection status designation. In addition to TPS expansion, there are demands of the Biden Administration to stop mass deportation of Haitians.

Supporters of TPS also demand the Biden Administration to not incarcerate Haitians at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay. This event is part of Alianza Americas’ Leadership Assembly 2022: #SomosComunidad, which is taking place in Washington, DC.

This press conference and related events are a national coordinated effort led by directly impacted communities and organizations serving Central American communities
