Duluth Salvation Army continues to serve the community with your support

The Duluth Salvation Army serves so many with food, shelter, and care.

One of those people is Chevella Korkalo. She was working six days a week as a housekeeper to pay the rent for her family. But then carbon monoxide forced them out of their apartment.

She started searching for help, and found the Salvation Army. “They told me about transitional housing, and one opened up for me and my kids. I have time now to work on myself, my mental health and anxiety, and my kids. And also work on my career path, so when I leave this transitional housing, I can start my career. I’m blessed to be in this position.”

Korkalo hopes to be able to help other families like hers someday.

Her story was shared at the annual civic luncheon on Friday.

Supporters of the Salvation Army come together to hear about the impact the organization continues to make, and raise money as well.

Duluth Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj was the keynote speaker, and shared about the important partnership between the department and the organization.
