Gordy’s Hi-Hat in Cloquet opened for its 62nd season on Wednesday.
This was the restaurant’s first season opener since the passing of its founder, Gordy Lundquist, last year.
“This is our first year opening without my grandpa here, but [we’re] trying to keep the tradition alive and do things the way he would want us to do them,” said Gordy’s grandson, Sever Lundquist. “We’re lucky to have support in our community and we’re just happy to see a lot of our regular customers coming back in after a long winter.”
Lundquist said, despite the lingering winter weather, people we’re more than ready to get a frozen treat on opening day.
“Funny thing is that even though its 30 degrees out, snowing and freezing rain, people still want to come in and get blackberry shakes and strawberry shakes. It’s almost like it tastes like spring and summer. People are ready for the new season.”
Gordy’s is open seven days a week for 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
