No. 7 UMD women’s hockey enters another NCAA regional rematch

For the second time in two weeks University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team will faceoff against a foe they bested in the NCAA regional tournament.

First it was the Gophers, now this Friday they’ll host Harvard who they shut out 4-0 in round one of the NCAA tournament in March. An added bonus will be the Bulldogs’ coaches are personally familiar with the Crimson.

Head coach Maura Crowell spent five years on their staff, including one as interim head coach. While UMD associate head coach Laura Bellamy both played for Harvard and later spent two seasons as an assistant.

“It is fun to play my old boss and my old team and for ‘Lou’ with the alma mater. You know while we’re in game 15-16 this weekend, they’re in game seven and eight,” said head coach Maura Crowell

“I think it brings a lot of camaraderie to our team too. We kind of heckle ‘Lou’ here and there about being an alum from there, but seeing coach and the fun that she had at Harvard I think it’s super cool to see all the history come together with our team,” added graduate forward Naomi Rogge.

UMD just swept St. Cloud State when graduate forward Naomi Rogge became the program’s 23rd player to hit 100 career points.

Puck drop against Harvard Friday is 6:00 p.m. at Amsoil Arena.
