Last year, the Duluth Denfeld boy’s hockey team was right on the heels of the now defending state champion Hermantown Hawks. The Hunters went on to finish as runners-up in the Section 7A championship.
“The excitement is that we made it to the section championship the last three years in a row. If we were in any other section with the exception of Warroad, we’d be at a state tournament. It’s a good testament to our guys, it’s a good testament to Section 7A, but our expectations don’t go down,” said Head Coach Dale Jago.
The Hunters have a stacked bench, and they boast a full junior varsity and varsity rosters with three goaltenders to pull from.
Senior captain Andy Larson said their offseason efforts, work ethic, and team skill is putting them in a good position to stay strong competitors. “We have a lot of good upcoming players and a lot of returners that were kind of overlooked last year, so they are going to work hard and show what they got this year. We are never going to give up and never give up on plays which is what you need right there.”
The Hunters drop the puck on their season Saturday, November 26th hosting International Falls.
