Person found dead after Carlton County camper fire
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says human remains were found after a camper fire in rural Kettle River.
A 911 caller reported the fire at a property on Moline Road in Kalevala Township just after 8 a.m. Friday. The fifth-wheel camper was fully engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived.
Firefighters located human remains after extinguishing the fire.
The name of the person who died has not been released because family members are still being notified.
The sheriff’s office said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it is not considered suspicious. The state Fire Marshal’s Office and the sheriff’s office are investigating the cause.
The Kettle River, Moose Lake, and Cromwell fire departments responded to the scene, as well as sheriff’s deputies and Essentia Health Ambulance. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is also assisting in the investigation.
