Well, it is finally here, the day when the United States team took its turn on the big stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar, taking on Wales.
The World Cup is among the biggest sporting events in the world. A time for the biggest soccer fans and lovers around to come together for fun and trash-talk one another.
On Monday, many Duluth fans gathered at Dubh Linn Brew Pub to watch Team USA play. “I think really like with the pandemic everyone shut down. We kind of really isolates ourselves. So, now this is kind of great to get back into it, and kind of get back to enjoying everyone’s company. Celebrating together and supporting the boys out there in Qatar with everything they are going through. So it’s just good to come together,” said bartender David Roden.
People of all ages gathered at Dubh Linn’s earlier to see Team USA in action as they looked to get a win against Wales. It was all smiles and game-time faces as the quest for the USA to qualify for the World Cup took place.
“I know quite a few people that are here. The are a lot of soccer fans here, especially Minnesota United fans, and then locally we have Duluth FC. So, it is nice to see so many people down here. It is busy, and it’s just cool to get together with other soccer fans, and everybody is excited about it,” soccer fan Ryan Susans shared.
Team USA qualified for the World Cup back in 2014, and they failed to qualify in 2018. Susans mentioned that it would be rough for Team USA if they don’t win in their class.
“Well, if they crush out in the groups, it is not really like a successful cup. This team is good enough, the most talented team the USA has ever had. So we should get out of the groups, and then in the knockouts, anything can happen.”
36 minutes into the game, and USA scored the first goal, and cheers could be heard loud and clear throughout the pub.
“I love to see the excitement. I love to see all the people coming together, cheering for that one goal. One goal is to see us advance through the group stages. Hopefully, make it a little bit farther because I don’t think we’ve gotten past the quarterfinals,” Roden expressed.
Hopefully, this year Team USA will make it very far this year. In the end, team USA didn’t get the win, and they didn’t lose either; the game resulted in a draw. USA will play again on Friday against England.
