19-year-old rescued from Park Point

A 19-year-old woman was rescued from the water off Park Point Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say she was playing in the waves with friends when a wave knocked her over and she couldn’t get up. She was struggling 40 feet out when the 911 call came in.

The Duluth Fire Department said friends were able to get her to the water’s edge, and rescue crews got her off the beach to a waiting ambulance. She was taken to a local hospital.

There was a rip current warning in effect at the time.
