Several of Duluth’s performing arts organizations banded together at Wade Stadium Thursday evening to celebrate a return to live performance.
“We need[ed] to do something to say we’re back. Here we are. We’re opening our doors. We’re so excited and so this is to kick off the season,” said Amber Burns, the Family Theater Artistic Director at Duluth Playhouse.
The free event saw performances featuring members of Lyric Opera of the North, Renegade Theater Company, the DSSO, Wise Fool Theater, the Minnesota Ballet, Take It With You, the Duluth Playhouse, and Lake Superior Youth Chorus. Also involved are Matinee Musicale, Arrowhead Chorale, and Twin Ports Choral Project.
Sarah Lawrence, the General Artistic Director for Lyric Opera of the North, said that the event was not just a celebration of the performing arts returning to Duluth after the struggle of the pandemic, but also a celebration of the fact that none of the participating organizations had to shut down during the team. She attributed that to community support.
