At the Head of the Lakes Fair Wednesday

The fun has begun at the Head of the Lakes Fair in Superior, with all the rides, fried food, and animals to satisfy the craving. The Fair runs through Sunday, July 25 at the Fairgrounds at 4700 Tower Avenue in Superior. Gates open at 2:00 p.m. WDIO News will be broadcasting LIVE from the Fairgrounds during WDIO News at Five and Six on Thursday.

WDIO stopped at the Fair on Wednesday. Food stand employees, Evan Barbacori and Kara Holzscheiter told us there are a lot more rides, food and games this year. "A lot more people are just excited to get out, been cooped up in the house for the last year."

Aside from all the food and games, there are also the animals. Kids in 4-H are excited to show all their hard work.

"A lot of kids don’t think of the barns or that type of stuff," 13-year-old, 4H Participant, Alexa Swanson said. "That’s my instant thought. I think of the animals, and then I think about hanging out with the other kids from the barns." Swanson says it is "always so much fun!"

The Rides, Midway and food will be open until Midnight. Admission is $8 for adults 18-64; 65+ or those with Military ID are $5; Kids 10-17 are $5; and 9 and under are free. Ride armbands are available for $25. Event info: Visit Head of the Lakes Fair on Facebook.

Events begin with the Jr. Fair and open class judging on Wednesday. On Thursday there will be a Meat BINGO at 5 p.m., Beef Auction at 7 p.m. and a Hypnotist, Jim Mitchell returns. Friday enjoy the Horse Pleasure & Game Show at 10 a.m., Family Farm Day, Traders Village, and Magician/Hypnotist.

Saturday brings Barrel Racing at 1 p.m, Traders Village at 3 p.m., Magician/Hypnotist at 5-7-9, and BMX Stunts/Mega Jump Show from 6-8 p.m. Kid’s Demo Derby will be held at noon on Sunday, along with the Demo Derby at 1 p.m.

Organizers remind fairgoers that the pandemic has caused staffing shortages for nearly all the booths and vendors this year. Be prepared to wait a little longer – but there is plenty of food and fun to go around – and it will be worth the wait.
