Last Friday night turned out to be a big one for the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) volleyball team.
Rallying from behind the Bulldogs notched the 3-2 victory over the University of Sioux Falls to hand UMD head coach Jim Boos his 500th career win.
"We had no idea going into it and we came into our huddle at the end and Jim told us that it was a special game for him," Kate Berg, a fifth year outside hitter, recalled. "When he told us it was his 500th win, there were a few tears that were shed amongst the group."
This makes Boos just the 15th head coach in Division II volleyball history to reach the milestone. In his 20th season with the Bulldogs he said this win is one he’ll never forget.
"To reach it when we did was pretty exciting, and certainly it’s a memorable one to do it in five sets," Boos said. "15-13 with the way that match went, it was certainly one that you won’t forget."
Boos and the Bulldogs will look to make that 501 wins this Friday hosting Minnesota State University-Mankato. First serve between No. 22 UMD and the Mavericks is set for 6pm.
