Christmas tree prices increasing

A family tradition of picking a Christmas tree usually involves searching through acres finding the perfect, fullest and sometimes the tallest tree and enjoying the experience.

Across the United States, many Christmas tree lots have had more difficulty getting as many trees as in years past with shipping issues primarily causing the problem.

Here in the Northland there are more trees grown locally so it’s easier to keep that family tradition of finding the perfect tree. But tree shoppers should expect to pay a little more even at local tree farms.

The Chub Lake Tree Farm had to increase their prices a little this year unlike years before due to fuel and labor prices increasing. The farm has 10 acres filled with Christmas trees to choose from ranging from different sizes and prices.

“We got good seven to eight foot trees out there that price range from $50-70. Some of those really large trees are over $100. We got some smaller trees that are in the $25-35 range”, said owner Jim Whorton.

The tree farm also has an area where customers can select pre-cut trees, wreaths, stands, water sprout, lights and much more, then pay at a self-service red payment box or through remote pay stations using the PayPal app.

Chub Lake Tree Farm is located at 1867 East Chub Lake Road in Carlton. The farm is open every day from 10:00am-5:00pm.
