CHUM Food Shelf receives large donation for their Thanksgiving Food Drive
There was a special delivery at CHUM Food Shelf on Thursday as they received around 350 turkeys and other goodies to distribute throughout the community for holiday meals. The turkeys for the Thanksgiving Food Drive were supplied at cost by Reinhart foods. Leadership Duluth, North Shore Bank, anonymous donors and the community came together to help provide the funds for the food drive.
This year, North Shore Bank challenged their employees to the incentive of matching dollar-for-dollar for the food drive. Overall, they raised a total of $10,500 to contribute to the holiday fundraising tradition. In combination with the Chamber members, donations totaled $12,525 for local families in need. Earlier in October, CHUM received an anonymous donation of $18,000. This donation was enough to help cover the cost of 300 boxes of thanksgiving dinner.
Chum Food Shelf director Scott Van Daele says helping the community in times like these is just beyond rewarding.
“To be able to give this away free of charge, to people in need, it’s really truly the mission of CHUM. It is to help people that need help. Having supporters like The Chamber and North Shore Bank and some private anonymous donors to make this happen is just amazing to do,” Van Daele said,
Thanksgiving boxes will be available for pickup starting at 10:00 am on Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church located at 4831 Grand Ave. Pickup of boxes will also be at 10:00 am on Wednesday at CHUM Food Shelf, located at 120 N 1st Ave West.
