Citing updated CDC guidance, Target updates mask policy

In areas of substantial or high risk of virus transmission, Target will once again require face coverings for employees and will "strongly recommend" face coverings for all shoppers. The Minneapolis-based retailer made the announcement Monday, stating the requirement will take effect Tuesday.

The decision was based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 guidance update issued last week.

Target officials said stores will follow all local mandates and will continue to adhere to CDC guidance.

Officials also said cleaning measures and social distancing protocols will remain in place.

The retailer is also encouraging its employees and customers to get the COVID-19 vaccine "by offering vaccine appointments at nearly all CVS at Target locations and providing paid time and free Lyft rides to (employees) when they get their vaccines."
