Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, Duluth East boys soccer clinch state tournament berths

Tuesday night the Duluth East and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boy’s soccer teams secured section championship wins to advance to state.

Meeting for the third straight section tournament, top-seeded Duluth East finally picked up the win over second seeded Centennial. In their 3-0 Section 7AAA victory David Wallerstein scored twice and Kai Hoffman once, earning the Greyhounds their first state berth since 2018.

Duluth now turns their eyes to the Class AAA state tournament which kicks off October 26.

In Section 7AA, third seeded Cloquet-Esko-Carlton pulled off the 3-2 upset over top-seeded Duluth Denfeld. Jordan Aultman scored two goals, including the Lumberjacks’ game winner, while Elijah Aultman scored once. Gus Haugen and Matt Eklund each tallied goals for Denfeld.

The Lumberjacks will now prepared for the Class AA state tournament which begins Oct. 26.
