Dangerous swimming conditions for Park Point Beaches
Dangerous rip current threat on Park Point.
Strong winds in the Twin Ports are stirring up Lake Superior, increasing the risk of rip currents on Thursday. The Duluth Fire Department is issuing a warning for dangerous swimming conditions for Park Point beaches effective immediately.
The warning will remain in effect until 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Wind and wave conditions can support dangerous rip currents at anytime.
Rip currents are life-threatening to anyone entering the water. Authorities advise everyone to stay out of the water regardless of their swimming experience.
Red flags have been posted along the beach to indicate dangerous swimming conditions. The public should wait until the warnings expire before entering the water. Officials say even calm waters can support rip currents after storm activity.
The Fire Department strongly advises the public to stay out of the water. Flag locations are located at the South Pier (South of
Lift Bridge), 12th Street Beach, Lafayette Park, and two locations at the Park Point Beach House.
