On Friday Duluth Denfeld announced they have named Erik Reinertsen as the new head coach of the girl’s basketball program.

Denfeld Athletic Director Tom Pearson made the announcement via Twitter.

Reinertsen is no stranger to Northland basketball. He is the father of former University of Wisconsin (UWS) women’s basketball standout Eva Reinertsen, and former Denfeld boy’s basketball star Josh Reinertsen.

Eva surpassed over 1,300 points during her career with the Yellowjackets, while Josh hit over 1,000 points with the Hunters. He continued his career also playing basketball at UWS.

Erik, a pastor in Duluth’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, played basketball for Duluth Central during their 1992 and 1993 state tournament runs. He takes over for Adair Ballavance who led the team for 10 seasons.
