More than 20 people are temporarily displaced after a fire at a Duluth Heights apartment building on Monday morning.
The fire at the 21-unit Burke Apartments on Maple Grove Road was reported around 9:30 a.m. No one was injured, and all of the residents had evacuated from the building before firefighters arrived.
The Duluth Fire Department says the fire was contained to one unit, but most of the units in the building experienced water damage due to the sprinkler system activation. Fire crews used water vaccums and other equipment to remove water from the building.
The fire department says residents of the building are receiving assistance from the property owner until they can return home. A local damage mitigation company will assist in the cleanup.
The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause to be accidental. A news release did not specify the nature of the accident.
