Duluth house fire spotted by passerby on I-35

The Duluth Fire Department says a house fire first spotted by a driver on I-35 caused $150,000 in damage to a West Duluth home.

The passerby reported the fire just before 6:30 p.m. Monday. Firefighters responded to the area and found a home in the 300 block of North 53rd Avenue West on fire, with flames showing on the second story.

One person was in the home at the time and was not injured. The residents of the home have been temporarily displaced.

The Duluth Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The 53rd Avenue West fire came about 90 minutes after a different structure fire in the city.
