Duluth Police Department now has its first ever mother-daughter duo

Four new recruits were sworn into the Duluth Police Department Friday.

After 380 training hours at the Duluth Police Academy and years of thinking about it, Officer Maddy Robertson said it will be a day to remember.

“Honestly, it’s so weird being at his point because it’s something you dream about and you think about, explained Robertson. “It’s weird that its finally coming to fruition. It’s here. It’s a really surreal feeling.”

The day was extra special for Robertson because she was pinned by her mother, Officer Angela Robertson. The two are now the first ever mother-daughter duo that the Duluth Police Officer has ever had.

“I’m so proud. I still can’t believe she followed in my footsteps. I still have that ‘awe’ about it,” Angela Robertson happily said. “It’s a very male dominant career and to see that I raised this amazing, strong, resilient, incredible female that is going to go out there and really be a role model and be a part of the community, I’m just really proud and humbled.”

Maddy Robertson was joined by Christopher Robinson, Kateleen Catton, and Stephen Shelton at the swearing in ceremony.

Now, the four new officers will next start the Field Training Officer program.

The 16 week progam puts them through a myriad of real-life policing scenarios.
