Four cats killed in Superior house fire

Four cats were killed in a house fire in Superior on Friday afternoon, the Superior Fire Department said in a news release.

Battalion Chief Camron Vollbrecht says crews responded to the home at 2327 Tower Avenue shortly after 3:30 Friday afternoon.

On arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the west side of the home.

Two dogs and a cat were rescued, but four other cats died in the fire.

The home sustained an estimated $75,000 worth of damage.

One firefighter suffered a minor heat-related injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Vollbrecht says it does not appear to be suspicious.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with their vet bills for the pets that were rescued, and expenses of finding another place to live.

Mayo Ambulance, Superior Police, and Superior Water, Light, and Power assisted the Superior Fire Department on scene.
