Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness welcomed local families to experience the adventures of the Boundary Waters at a free event at Bagley Nature Area on the UMD campus Wednesday.

The group helped people try out activities like paddling, portaging, fire-building, and using a map and compass.
“[We’re] eally trying to build skills so people feel excited to visit the wilderness and prepared to go out there,” explained Education Director Alison Nyenhuis. “One of my favorite things about the Boundary Water is there’s a lot of different ways to do it. You don’t have to do a huge push trip.”
