The Number 7 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team started out slow Friday night against Number 6 University of Minnesota.
The Gophers were able to strike early and often, notching two goals in the first period including one at the 2:36 mark.
The Bulldogs where finally able to score during the latter stages of the second period, as senior transfer Elizabeth Giguere notched her first ever goal at AMSOIL Arena.
UMD wouldn’t be able to find the equalizer and fell 3-1.
"Needed to be better from us at the start of the game. I think we gave too much momentum to them in the first period, got going in the second and the third but a little too late," UMD head coach Maura Crowell said.
Series finale against the Gophers is set for Saturday at 3:01p.m.
