Gilling scores 2, No. 4 UMD tops No. 6 UND in return to the Ralph
Casey Gilling scored twice Friday as the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey team downed the University of North Dakota (UND) 4-1 on the road at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
The game marked the two program’s first meetings since March 27, when UMD defeated UND 3-2 in five overtimes to earn a NCAA Frozen Four berth.
Along with Gilling’s two goals, Dominic James and Kobe Roth each tallied a goal in the Bulldogs’ National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) series opener win. UMD netminder Ryan Fanti tallied 23 saves.
The Bulldogs (8-2-1) will hunt for the series sweep Saturday. Puck drop against the Fighting Hawks is set for 6:07pm.
