Gogebic County Sheriff Matonich to retire
Gogebic County Sheriff Pete Matonich has announced plans to retire at the end of the year.
Matonich has worked with the sheriff’s office for nearly 35 years and has been sheriff for the past 11 years. He said in a statement released Friday that his decision comes with "excitement and fond sadness."
"I want to thank the citizens of this great county for all of your support given to me over the years. My job was made easier by having such a professional and dedicated staff, along with continued support from the County Board of Commissioners. I am forever grateful to my wife and family for standing with me through it all," Matonich wrote.
Matonich had been re-elected last year with no opposition in the general election. His last day will be Dec. 31.
