Grand Rapids’ Kinnunen, South Ridge’s Weber named section coaches of the year

After stellar seasons, two Northland coaches have received top honors.
Grand Rapids’ Bill Kinnunen and South Ridge’s Aaron Weber were named section coaches of the year by the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association (MSHSBCA).
Kinnunen, the 7AAA selection, led the Thunderhawks to their first state title game since 2005.
They finished the season 19-8 as Class AAA runners up.

Weber earned the MSHSBCA’s 7A honor.
In his first season as head coach of the Panthers he helped them notch their third straight trip to state.
They closed out their season 21-4 in the Class A quarterfinals.
