This Friday, for the first time in his eight year career at Grand Rapids, head football coach Greg Spahn will battle the schools of Virginia and Eveleth-Gilbert combined as their new co-op Rock Ridge.

"It’s always a fun challenge when it’s a team that you haven’t seen," Spahn said. "They’re big, they’re athletic, their quarterback is good he gets the ball out pretty quick. We’re going to have our hands full, but it will be good to start a new rivalry I hope."

While the Wolverines sit 2-4 on the season, the Thunderhawks aren’t underestimating their opponents. Not only is Grand Rapids prepared for Rock Ridge’s gritty offense, they hope this is the start of a toughth new tradition on the Iron Range.

The Thunderhakws also have a perfect home record on the line, sitting 2-0 at Noble Hall Field so far this season. Kickoff against the Wolverines is Friday at 7pm.
