On Sunday, Hayward Wolfpack FC suffered a close 2-1 loss to Eau Claire Bateaux FC in the Wisconsin Primary Amateur Soccer League (WPASL) Primary Cup Championship help at Northland College in Ashland.
The Wolfpack would score first thanks to an early first half goal by Ashland native King Strum.
However Eau Claire’s Tye Kruetzfeldt netted the tying goal, with the game winner coming from Mason Sherman in overtime.
This marks Bateaux’s second straight WPASL Primary Cup title.
Hayward now sits 13-7 overall on the season. They’re first in WPASL standings with a 9-1 league record.
Additionally, Wolfpack’s Kaden Bergman was named Midfielder of the Year and league MVP.
"Obviously exciting to win Midfielder of the Year, it’s always good. I obviously couldn’t do it without the guys around me," Bergman said. "Looking forward to getting into shape for next year, and taking home the [WPASL] title."
There was more good news and his brother Cole Bergman was named Goaltender of the Year
"It’s an award not just for me, but for the guys in front of me. It shows how much we’ve improved defensively since last season," Cole said. "Obviously I’m gutted to not be able to bring home the WPASL championship, but it’s still a big honor to be able to win Goalkeeper of the Year."
Cole also earned the Golden Glove Award, which is given to the top goalie in the league.
