Earlier this year Chase Sams helped the Hermantown boy’s hockey team skate to another section title. However the senior has more than one athletic gear.
Over the weekend he sped his way to a Minnesota Cycling Association state title.
"This is actually my first race win of the year so everything came together for the right day," Sams expressed Monday following the Saturday event. "Especially when you have to focus on two other sports and you don’t have time to focus on kids that are doing 8,000 miles a year focusing just on biking, it’s hard. You have to be right in your tip top shape for the day and it makes it difficult, so it means a lot."
Racing for team Duluth Composite in a pool of about 85 varsity boy competitiors he finished the 16 mile Mount Kato (Mankato, Minn.) course in first place.
The total field included about 2,700 riders. Sams, cycling since he was in 7th grade, added it’s been great watching the sport grow every year. When they become available, click here for full results.
