Celebrate the lifestyles and folkways of the Voyageurs in the Northland with the 22nd Annual Lester River Rendezvous on Saturday in Duluth’s Lester Park. Don Mendoza stopped by Good Morning Northland to talk about the event. He has been working with the Rendezvous for over 20 years.
"They put on such a hands on demonstration for the public," Mendoza said about the Voyageurs who participate in the event.
Twenty skilled re-enactors provide demonstrations depicting life in our area during the 18th and early 19th centuries in the Voyageur Village.
On Thursday and Friday it is Lester River Rendezvous educational days when schools from around the region bus students to the park to learn about life in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Mendoza says the kids go from one station to another learning about what life was like so long ago.
"When you are there, the teachings are so exact to the way it used to be. It’s amazing," Mendoza said. He also says the grand finale for the kids is the black powder canon that is shot off during the event.
Numerous craft and food vendors will be at the park on Saturday.
"It’s so educational and so interesting," Mendoza said. "Every year I learn more by watching the voyaguers."
The Lester River Rendezvous is on Saturday, September 25 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in Lester Park. It is free and open to the public. Click here for more details.
