A loaded gun was confiscated from a student at the Area Learning Center in Duluth Wednesday morning, the district says.
Two staff members reportedly informed an administrator they believed a student had a gun, and the student was removed from their classroom.
The Duluth Police Department said the student was cooperative and turned the gun over. An ISD 709 representative said it was loaded.
Police took the 17-year-old boy into custody on pending charges of possession of a firearm in a school and possession of a firearm under the age of 18.
The district said the student will face disciplinary action in accordance with the student handbook.
The Area Learning Center is currently operating out of the Technology Village on Lake Avenue and Superior Street.
